Abstract

1,197,762. Offshore platforms. BETHLEHEM STEEL CORP. 6 Oct., 1967 [7 Oct., 1966], No. 45691/67. Heading E1H. A hull assembly 2 supporting a marine platform 4 comprises two elongated horizontally spaced parallel pontoons 8 having freeboard and joined by brace elements 10 secured to the upper surface of each pontoon, columns 3 being rigidly secured to the hull assembly 2 and extending upwardly to be secured to platform 4 through jacks in housings 7, whereby hull assembly 2 buoyantly supports platform 4 completely above the surface of the water when pontoons 8 are deballasted and the hull assembly is submerged below the surface of the water when the pontoons are (ballasted. In the embodiment described one of the columns 3 is ridgidly secured at its lower end to the midpoint of one of the brace elements 10.
