Abstract

1438916 Semi-submersible structure BROWN & ROOT Inc 25 March 1974 [6 April 1973] 13184/74 Heading B7M [Also in Division E1] A floating platform comprises a floatable barge 10 rigidly connected to a pair of adjustably submersible hulls or pontoons 30P and 30S having a plurality of port 32 and starboard 34 columns extending vertically upwardly from each hull. Tranverse bracing interconnects the columns and when the hulls are completely submerged the upper transverse bracing 38 defines horizontal support surfaces below the water surface. The upper ends of at least some of the columns 32, 34 extend above the water surface to define a barge receiving zone. Extension frames 46, between at least some of the port and starboard columns and the barge form a deck surface flush with the barge deck. Ballast water can be transferred from one hull to the other through conduit 60, Fig. 8 (not shown), in each lower brace beam 36. In this fashion pumps of one hull may, if necessary, control the buoyancy of both hulls. (For Figures see next page.)
