Abstract
1371846 Floating offshore structure ENTREPRISE D'EQUIPEMENTS MECANIQUES & HYDRAULIQUES 10 May 1972 [14 May 1971] 21942/72 Heading E1H A floating offshore structure, e.g. drilling rig, comprises a tubular base 1 of annular or polygonal shape in plan and a plurality of hollow columns 2 mounted in pairs on the base 1 and inclined so as to be connected in pairs at their upper ends thus forming a trellislike framework, the structure having additional bracing members 3, 5 and (12) Fig. 3 (not shown). The bracings 5 and (12) respectively connect the bases and tops of the columns 2 to a platform 4 to support the latter, whilst members 3 connect the tops of adjacent columns 2. The tubular base 1 may be trapezoidal in section and house propulsion means for the structure. The base may be fabricated from a plurality of sections which are welded together in the water by employing suitably shaped caissons, Figs. 8, 9 (not shown) to surround the weld join. The base 1 may be rectangular in plan comprising a pair of parallel elongate hulls interconnected adjacent each end by transverse members to form a catamaran-like structure Figs. 10, 11 (not shown).
