Abstract
1,195,901. Splitting bast fibres and leaf. GIDDINGS & LEWIS-FRASER Ltd. 12 Sept., 1967 [14 Feb., 1967], No. 6979/67. Heading D1N. A decorticating apparatus of the kind having the centra-rotating rollers 1 and 2 spring urged together includes a throttle blade 3 mounted to form a seal with one roller 1 and to define together with the roller peripheries a chamber 11 having an inlet defined by the nip 22 and an outlet 12 defined by the gap between the edge 25 of the blade and the periphery of roller 2. The blade is adjustably mounted such that it can be moved to alter gap 12 without disturbing the seal between it and the roller. A spring or pneumatic device acts downwardly on the blade during operation of the apparatus. Fibrous material coming through the nip 22 builds up in the chamber 11. Consequently the fibres buckle, which forces the fibres from the non- fibrous material and the now plastic mass of fibres and separated tissue are extended through outlet 12 and removed by conveyer 105.
