Abstract

119,539. Goldstone, M. H. Oct. 5, 1917. Shades; shade-holders. -A damp and acid proof cover of earthenware or the like, which may be extended to serve as a shade or may be adapted to receive a shade or the like, is provided with an internal flange for clamping to an electric lamp holder and with end caps to make gas-tight joints with the conductors and with the lamp-bulb, the lower cap consisting of a removable flexible diaphragm having an aperture for the passage of the lamp cap. As shown, the cover a has an internal flange b clamped between the union and shade rings of the lamp-holder, the shade ring being preferably provided with projections or recesses to facilitate manipulation. Rotation may be prevented by projections on the holder entering notches b<1> in the flange b. The lower end of the cover extends to the level of or below the shoulder of the lamp, and is beaded to hold the annular rubber disk k bearing against the shoulder. A porcelain lid f or a rubber cap i fitting around the preferably rubber-sheathed conductors closes the upper end of the cover, or both means may be provided. When a rubber cap is not used, the upper part of the cover may be filled with wax.
