Abstract
17,060. Fildes, S. Dec. 4. Holders; caps.-A collar of fume-resisting material, such as porcelain, secured around a lamp-cap or bulb neck, is attached to and closes a lamp-holder casing made of similar material and having a shade-carrying extension. The collar a may be fastened on the lamp, in place of or over the usual metal cap, by cement or plaster of paris. It may screw into the casing c, Fig. 3, and its threaded periphery may be stepped as shown. The extension g, consisting of a cylindrical or conical sleeve with apertures i for ventilation and a rim h to retain the shade, may be integral with the casing c, or may screw into the casing; and the collar a then either screws into the sleeve or has a plain flange clamped between the casing and the end of the sleeve. In another arrangement, the shade-carrier g, Fig. 5, is supported by wings q, which rest in recesses in a flange o in the casing and can be passed through gaps in the flange after lifting and rotating the carrier; a flange n within the casing, or a sleeve secured therein dips into a sealing-liquid, such as oil, in a groove in the collar a. 'The casing may screw on to a pipe d enclosing the conductors, or on to a cord-grip having sealed holes for the conductors. An ordinary lamp-holder s may be arranged in the casing, or the conductors may be soldered to the contacts of the lamp-cap or to the leading-in wires. According to the Provisional Specification, rubber or like packing may be compressed between the collar and the casing.
