Abstract

1,194,035. Rollerway conveyers for furnaces. GIBBONS BROS. Ltd. 16 Aug., 1968 [22 Aug., 1967], No. 38609/67. Heading F4B. A continuous furnace for the firing of ceramics or heat treatment of metals comprises a rollerway conveyer with hollow ceramic or alloy rollers 101 with ends disposed in openings 105 in the side walls 102 and stub shafts 106 passing through bearings 107, each stub shaft carrying a counterweight 108 providing compensating bending moment for the blocks 109 carried by the rollers. Alternate rollers have longer and shorter stub shaft's with the weights adjusted to provide even moments. Gas burners 103, 104 are disposed in the side walls near the roof and floor respectively. Alternatively, the compensating bending moment can be applied through springs or fluid pressure motors applied between supplementary shaft bearings and a fixed part of the kiln. In the latter case the pressure may be applied in groups and in response to load detecting means. The stub shafts may be disposed in the ends of the rollers as disclosed in Specification 1,107,481.
