Abstract

1,180,302. Winding webs. VALMET OY. 14 March, 1968 [14 March, 1967], No. 12371/68. Heading B8R. A beam 1 supporting rider rollers 4 in a twodrum web-winding machine (Figs. 1 and 2) has means to bend the beam about its longitudinal neutral axis to counteract deflection caused by its inherent weight. The beam 1 is supported by chains 3 via bell-crank levers 12 pivoted on pivot pins fixed to the beam. The vertical arms of the bell-crank levers react with rods 10 and 13 slidably mounted on the beam, whereby the pivot pins respectively compress and tension the beam below and above its neutral axis. The rods 10 and 13 may be fixed at their centre points to the beam. As an alternative only one rod 10 or 13 is provided above or below the neutral axis. In an alternative (Fig. 5), the beam is respectively tensioned or compressed by pneumatic or hydraulic cylinders (16, 17) reacting against the rods. In an alternative (Fig. 6), two rods (18) are pivoted together, and at their outer ends are pivoted to the ends of the beam 1 above the neutral axis, so that the rods form an angle with each other. The common pivot point of the rods is connected to an hydraulic ram mounted on the beam, which subjects the rods to a load which tends to cancel the deflection of the beam.
