Abstract

1,175,015. Spray producers. METCO Inc. 12 Sept., 1968 [13 Sept., 1967], No. 43309/68. Heading B2F. A powder type flame spray gun for use with a remote powder reservoir 2 from which powder is carried towards the gun by a carrier gas, comprises means provided adjacent the gun for separating the powder from the carrier gas and feeding the separated powder directly into the gun. In the construction shown the separating means comprises a separating chamber 4 having a gravity flow passage 5. The entrained powder enters the chamber through a inlet pipe 13 and is projected towards the passage 5, the carrier gas escaping from the chamber 4 through a vent 12. The separated powder passes through the passage 5, a valve 6 and a feed passage 7 in which it is picked a nozzle 9 into a flame sheath emerging from orifice 8. The powder is then projected through a nozzle 9 into a flame sheath emerging from nozzle jets 10. In a modification the inlet to the chamber is tangential thereto the powder being separated from the carrier gas by centrifugal forces (Fig. 2, 3, not shown).
