Secondary frames. - A traction engine has an endless tractor structure secured to the main frame so that the tractor can rock, and the main frame is flexibly supported by the tractor, the endless structure having a downward bulge making contact with the ground only at a point lying in front of the pivot of the tractor frame and in rear of the middle. The tractor is pivoted at or near the axis of the drive shaft 4, and rocking engagement of the tractor belt with the ground occurs near the point 34. The free end of the tractor unit is guided in respect to the main frame to permit vertical movement and prevent lateral movement. The belt passes around the pulleys 10, 11, 12, and the shaft 8 of the forward pulleys 10 is movable in the tractor frame and the yielding device 18, 19 is interposed to permit the shaft to move and, if necessary, the nuts 20 break, to prevent injury to the mechanism when an obstruction comes between the belt and any of its supporting-devices. The shaft 27 also has a spring 32 interposed between it and the tractor frame.
