Abstract

Spring devices.-In a rear-springing device for motor-cycles, wherein springs are arranged in pairs in front of, and behind, the axle on each side of the wheel, the rear of the frame is so formed and disposed that it occupies a position between the two upper, and the two lower, helical springs on both sides of the wheel. As shown in Fig. 6, a bracket a secured to the wheel axle carries a pair of bolts c which slide in holes in the rear end d of the frame and are fitted above and below with compression springs b. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 7, the bolts c are screwed into the frame end d, and the bracket a is slidable upon the bolts under the control of upper and lower springs b. The wheel axle is mounted in an open slot in the bracket, and its position can be adjusted by a screw e. To take up end thrust and so to ensure easy vertical movement of the bracket, it may be arranged to bear at the front upon a double-flanged roller or wheel mounted on the frame.
