Abstract

155,973. Willoughby, N. D. Nov. 18, 1919. Spring devices.-In a spring suspension for the rear wheels of motor-cycles, a U-shaped frame a pivotally connected at c to the underside of the chain stays b has its open end a' pointing rearwards and constituting one arm of a lever carrying the wheel axle a<2>, shock-absorbing springs being provided between the chain stay or bottom bracket and the U-shaped frame in front of the pivot. Each pivot bearing for the frame a takes the form of a double adjustable ball bearing provided with dust caps and a lubricator k. The springs may be of the laminated type bolted to the frame a and shackled or movably connected (as by a pad or tension spring) to the bracket h; or, as shown in Fig. 3, the frame a may be fitted with a curved guide-rod l passing through an opening in the bracket and carrying main and rebound springs m, n and a. rubber block n<1>. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 29462/96, 15081/98, 10179/10, and 9540/15.
