Abstract

151,326. Levy, D. June 17, 1919. Spring devices. - Shock-absorbing devices of the kind described in Specification 136,655 are applied to motor vehicles, motor-cycles, side-cars, &c. as resilient and pivotally mounted connectors or links of the framework. Fig. 1 shows the device applied to the wheel axle g of a vehicle such as a side-car. The axle is carried in a guideblock h, which slides, against the action of springs o and checksprings o<1>, over guidebolts k secured at each end to a supporting-plate e. The axle passes through slots in the plate e, which has lugs e<3> pivoted in recesses in a bracket a clamped to the side tube b of the frame so that the axle may tilt freely when subjected to a shock at one end. The springs o<1> may bear against shoulders on the bolts k and against the ends of bosses j<1> which surround the bolts k and are secured to the guide-blocks h. Fig. 3 shows rear suspension for a motor-cycle in which two such shock absorbers are pivoted to the cycle frame by means of a bolt f passed through their supporting-plates e, the slide-blocks h being connected by a bolt f<1> to a triangular fork-frame p pivoted to the main frame at p<1> and carrying the wheel at its third corner.
