Abstract
19,057. Norton, J. L. Aug. 22. India-rubber springs; connexions and attachments applicable generally for tensile and compressive springs.-Relates to shock-absorbers in which rubber blocks are interposed between a set of radial ribs on one rotary member, and a corresponding set of ribs on a co-axial member, and consists in adapting such a device to absorb longitudinal shocks in the parts of cycles, motorcycles, side-cars, &c. Fig. 1 shows the device applied to the front forks of a motor-cycle, and Fig. 2 shows the device in vertical section. On each side of a bridge-piece 2 on the forks 1<a>, 1<b> is pivoted an arm integral with a cup 15 riding loosely on a pivot pin 9 on the frame 10, and having a series of ribs 20 between which and a similar set of ribs 19 on a cup 12 rigidly connected to the pin 9 are located a set of rubber blocks 21. The upper end of the fork is connected by a link 6 to the steering-head. The cup 12 rests entirely within the cup 15, which is closed by a screw-cap. An application of the device to the rear forks of a cycle is described.
