[Class 136 (iii)] [Also in Group XXXII] In a saddle suspension for motor cycles and the like, the saddle frame 9 is pivotally supported by a transverse bearing member 2 on the saddle pillar 1 and a forward extension 13 of the frame is received in a slide 17 freely rotatable in a fixed cradle 15 about a horizontal axis parallel with the pivotal axis of the frame. As shown, the peripheral frame member 9 is secured to a pin rotatable in the bearing 2 and the extension 13 is slidable in a slot 18 in the cylindrical slide 17, apertures 16 in the cradle, which is fixed to the upper frame member 14, permitting oscillatory movement of the end of the extension as the saddle pivots. The saddle pillar 1 is formed with a bushed lower end 25 to engage a buffer spring 20 in the down-tube 19 which is closed at its upper end by a bush 22 and an oil-absorbent sleeve 24 and contains an abutment 21 for the spring. Fig. 4 shows a saddle mounting embodying an hydraulic damping device additional to the spring 20, the pillar 1 having a cup-shaped piston 31 at its lower end containing a circular series of liquidthrottling orifices 36, flow of liquid through which, during rebound, is restricted by a platevalve 40 slidable on a bolt 38 fixed centrally in the piston. During compression, liquid passing up through the piston may flow into the annular space surrounding the pillar 1.
