Abstract

217,754. Dixon, F. W., and Bailey, S. L. June 5, 1923. Suspending undercarriages; overturning laterally, preventing.-The wheel of a motor-cycle side-car is mounted on the frame in such a manner that the outer side of the frame may be positively raised or lowered during travelling to facilitate taking bends at speed. The wheel A is carried by an arm B pivotally mounted on the frame member C and controlled by the lever D operated by the occupant of the side-car. The lever D may be adjustably secured to the arm, by interlocking castellations for example, and may be held in any position by a catch engaging a notched quadrant. The arm B may be raised or lowered by other mechanism and springs may be provided to return the arm to its normal position; and the sidecar may be provided with a sliding seat and back rest to facilitate operation of the lever D and suitably to disposed the weight of the occupant. A second lever for operation by the rider of the motor-cycle may be provided. The arm may be coupled to a steering wheel and gear, of the usual motor-car type, arranged in the sidecar.
