Abstract

1,169,258. Fume cupboards. GRUNDY EQUIPMENT Ltd. 26 June, 1968 [22 Sept., 1967], No. 43334/67. Heading F4X. In a fume cupboard provided with a forced ventilation system for maintaining the working space 5 at sub-atmospheric pressure and having a vertically sliding access door 1, a flow of air is swept across the floor 14 of the cupboard from a slot 13 disposed above and adjacent the floor 14, said air flow being supplied to the slot 13 from the surrounding space together with air from an adjacent duct 20 which in turn is supplied with air via connection pipes 22 from a distribution chamber 6. The duct 20 has perforations 21 facing the slot 13 and is fitted to an apron 18 extending across the front of the cupboard. With the door 1 closed, the distribution chamber 6 supplies air to the working space 5 via a plenum chamber 9 and a duct 10. When the door 1 is open the duct 10 is closed by the door and air then flows along an alternative path through louvres 15 to enter the working space through the front of the cupboard. Air circulating through the working space is withdrawn through a duct 3. Air is supplied to the distributing chamber 6 through an inlet duct 2.
