Abstract

1,167,828. Making projectiles. L. DESSART. 15 March, 1968 [31 March, 1967], No. 12688/68. Heading B3A. [Also in Division F3] A process for making an explosive projectile head comprises stamping out a metallic blank, forming by pressing or rolling, on one or both faces of the blank a set of impressions determining grooves, and swaging the blank to the desired shape. A filling orifice 5 is provided on the shaped blank, and the orifice may be either inwardly or outwardly directed. Two shaped blanks are soldered together to form the projectile head, which is then filled with explosive. The grooves are formed in the blanks in such a way that they are of equal width and depth after swaging, and when the blank is grooved on both sides, the opposed grooves are located in alignment with one another.
