Abstract
1,146,632. Sheet forming. OLIN MATHIESON CHEMICAL CORP. 10 Aug., 1966 [24 Aug., 1965], No. 35778/66. Heading B5A. [Also in Divisions B3, E1 and F4] A method of forming an expanded passageway in a metal or plastics panel comprises reducing the thickness of the panel on each side of the passageway further to expand the walls of the passageway and inserting into the passageway a tool to form the passageway into a desired configuration. The panel is initially formed by rolling together two metal sheets, which may be of different alloys, having a pattern of stopweld between their mating faces. The passageway 7 is opened by fluid inflation and the expansion on one side is greater than that on the other. A portion of the passageway is then further expanded placing the panel in a press so as to produce areas 20, 21 of reduced thickness. The excess material flows into the walls of the passageway and the final shape is obtained by the insertion of a tool (12), Fig. 6 (not shown).
