Abstract

1436271 Making trowels G CUSINATO 2 Jan 1974 [5 Jan 1973] 00062/74 Heading B3A [Also in Division B4] A method of making a trowel, which includes the application of a handle thereto, comprises blanking a trowel plate 1 from a steel strip, simultaneously provided a hole 2, Fig. 1, in the plate and deforming the area surrounding the hole to produce a cavity (3a), Fig. 4 (not shown), on one side of the plate and a projection 3 on the opposite side, providing a metal handle in the form of a bar 4 having an expanded terminal portion 5 of larger diameter than the hole and a stem portion 6 of smaller diameter than the hole, inserting the stem portion into the hole until the terminal portion contacts the edge of the hole, filling the cavity with molten metal 7, and cold pressing the terminal portion on to the projection. The handle is of ferrous material.
