Abstract

PURPOSE:To prepare a rough shaped billet with a prescribed web height from a slab of a comparatively narrow breadth, by installing a pass for rolling only the web in front of a main rolling pass, at forming a rough shaped billet to be finished into such a steel shape as an H-beam. CONSTITUTION:A blank slab is subjected to a centering rolling work for forming a groove 5 by a box caliber 11; a part 9 equivalent to a flange is then formed by a caliber 8. Thus formed slab 10 is 90 degrees turned and is then passed through a caliber 15 whose rolling face is formed into a taper; hereby, a rollig reduction is given to the slab so as to make a part 17 equivalent to the web elongate only in the direction of breadth. These passes by the calibers 8 and 15 are alternately several times repeated; then, the slab is passed through a box caliber 11 having a flat bottom face, and is fed to the final forming pass. By thus repeating the rolling pass with the caliber 15 for widening the web height, various kinds of rough shaped billets are prepared from a slab of a comparatively narrow breadth.
