Abstract

1,068,082. Forming box blanks. A. F. R. VON DIERSBURG. March 17, 1964 [March 18, 1963], No. 11297/64. Heading B5A. [Also in Divisions B6 and B8] A plastics sheet is provided with grooves, about which it may be subsequently bent, by pressure and/or solvent action, the grooves being so formed that the other face of the sheet is not deformed in any way. If heat is used the sheet must be cooled before it is subsequently bent. The cross-section of the grooves may be V-shaped (2) arcuate shaped (3) or rectangular shaped (4), and areas between said grooves may be provided with thickened portions (7) if required, for extra mechanical strength. The sheet may be grooved alternately on one side then the other as in Figs. 5 and 7 (not shown) to form a pleated article. A box-like member may be formed from a grooved blank shown in Fig. 10 by folding parts 9 about the appropriate grooves, then folding parts 10 about their grooves and then finally folding back flaps 8 to secure the parts 9 and 10 together, thus retaining the structure in its box-like shape.
