Abstract

1,165,421. Crimping yarns. HEBERLEIN & CO. A.G. 19 Jan., 1967 [3 Feb., 1966], No. 2981/67. Heading D1F. A suction device for cooling thermoplastic yarn, which is required to be rehardened after softening by heating on the upstream side of a false-twister or whilst several yarns are temporarily intertwisted during a texturing process, comprises a hollow body e.g. a closed tube of circular, oval or rectangular crosssection, having in its outer surface one or more grooves extending therealong parallel to the longitudinal axis of the body and having therein uniformly spaced holes communicating with the interior of the body which is connected to a source of suction. The yarn(s) travelling along the groove(s) is/are cooled by the passage of air through the holes and intimate contact with the body. If the ambient air is too hot or dry, cooled or moist air may be conducted through a passage above the groove(s). The surface may be domed and/or additional grooves may extend transversely of the longitudinal axis of the body.
