Abstract

1,202,368. Crimping yarns. JOHN HEATHCOAT & CO. Ltd. 21 Nov., 1967 [29 Nov., 1966], No. 53379/66. Addition to 1,088,935. Heading D1F. Apparatus for crinkling yarn, of thermoplastic fibres according to the parent specification also comprises means e.g. a surface heating plate, tube or roller, for preheating the yarn before it enters the crimping head. As shown, yarn Y passes several turns around and over an electrically heated plate, travelling around freely rotatable rollers 3, 4, at each end, thence over a hot feed plate 5 before entering the head 1. If theyarn travel is sufficiently fast to enable the yarn to he at or near crimping temperature when deformed into the crimped configuration, then the crimping unit is unheated but, otherwise, the unit is heated to a temperature intermediate the ambient and crimping temperatures.
