Abstract

1379247 Finishing and heating yarns COURTAULDS Ltd 13 April 1972 [14 April 1971] 9346/71 Heading D1F In a continuous yarn slubbing process, a running thermoplastic yarn drawn between feed and draw rolls passes through a guide which is moved to bring the yarn into intermittent contact with a heater so as to form the slubs and also to provide alternative yarn paths which the yarn follows at random so that the slubs are randomly varied. As shown, yarn following the path 7 and drawn between rollers 1 and 3 is engaged by a freely rotatable pulley 5 carried by a rotating disc 4 to be diverted into periodic contact with, and consequently softened to form slubs by, an electrically heated fixed cylinder 2 and meanwhile to follow randomly alternative paths 9 and 10 across the shoulder 8 and the apex of the pulley groove. The paths provide different lengths of, and tensions in, the yarn contacting. the heater and therefore different stubbing effects.
