Abstract

1,136,473. Crimping polyolefin yarns. CHEMCELL Ltd. 23 March, 1966 [23 March, 1965], No. 12304/65. Headings DIF and D1W. Polyolefin - for example isotactic polypropylene - yarns are crimped without previous heat stretching and then heat set in a relaxed state. The yarns have a low tenacity and a high elastic recovery, details of which are given. The yarns may pass directly from the melt spinner to the crimping device which may comprise a stuffer box, gear crimper, or a false-twister. The yarn may be heated by hot air in a jacketted tube, by di-electric heating, or by infra-red radiation. In the examples the yarn was put on skeins and heated in an oven.
