Abstract

922,405. Spinning and finishing yarns. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Feb. 15, 1961 [Nov. 16, 1959], No. 38748/59. Class 120 (3). Bulked yarn comprises continuous filaments of synthetic thermoplastic polymers e.g. polyesters and copolyesters, or polyolefines such as isotactic polypropylene, having a deliberately reduced strength compared with commercially available bulked yarn i.e. the tenacity of individual filaments, when measured at intervals of not more than three quarters of an inch, is uniformly or non-uniformly reduced from at least 4 grams per denier to 1-3.5 grams per denier. The yarn may be a non-torque singles, false-twist, stuffer-box, hot wire or gear crimped, with crimp elongation less than 15% and shrinkage per unit length in hot water or steam of not more than 10%. The initial filaments may be spun e.g. with denier variation along their length, or mechanically and/or chemically treated to produce the reduced tenacity, or a bulked yarn may be so treated. The finished yarn is stated to resist " snagging " and " pilling." Specifications 777,625, 808,213, 881,729, 921,583 and 922,406 are referred to.
