Abstract

1,160,974. Builder motion. JAMES MACKIE & SONS Ltd. 7 Dec., 1966 [4 Feb., 1966], No. 5074/66. Heading D1D. In a ring frame provided with a building motion consisting of a progressive upward movement and a superimposed reciprocatory movement derived from a rotary cam and having an auxiliary drive for driving the frame at a lower speed and for lowering the ring rail for doffing, the lowering movement is synchronised with the rotation of the cam by controlling the start of the lowering movement from a part moving in fixed relation with the rotary cam. As shown, ring rail 4 is reciprocated by a drive originating at a cam 11, the drive passing through a winch mechanism 17 whereby the rail is lifted by small amounts during the build to shape the packages. When the build is complete a switch 31 is operated by an element 30 associated with. the drive to the ring rails and a switch 83 in series with switch 31 is operated by a pin on a cam element 80 fixed to cam 11. As a result the normal machine drive is stopped, a lower speed motor started and then engaged to the main drive shaft through a pneumatically operated clutch. A pneumatic clutch 39 is then operated so that the delivery rollers drive the winch mechanism in reverse to accelerate the lowering of the ring rail. When the ring rail reaches its lowest point a portion of the cam 80 actuates a valve to cut off the air supply to clutch 39 and so return the winch mechanism to its normal condition. The undercoils are then wound beneath the bobbin and then a pin 81 on cam 80 operates a switch to stop the machine ready for doffing.
