Abstract

1,159,721. Fuel injectors. C.A.V. Ltd. Dec.19, 1966 [Jan. 7, 1966], No.791/66. Heading F1B. In an injector having a valve 13, Fig. 1, closed by a spring, the force of which is applied to the valve by a push rod 17 situated between the spring abutment 16 and valve stem 13, the rod 17 is provided with a blind bore containing a resilient member 18, Fig.2 of high spring rate which transmits the force to the valve stem. In Fig. 1 the resilient member is formed by three piano wires which buckle slightly under load, thereby reducing the metallic noise generated when the valve opens. A larger number of finer wires may be used for member 18 or, Fig. 4, a pile of curved washers 21. In Fig. 5 the resilient member is formed by a plug 22 of hard synthetic resin material which compresses slightly under load. In further embodiments the resilient member is a rectangular cross-section bar or a metallic rod which compresses slightly under load.
