Abstract
880,369. Fuel injection valves. BOSCH G.m.b.H., ROBERT. Sept. 16, 1959 [Sept. 24, 1958; June 26, 1959], No. 31512/59. Classes 7(3) and 7(6). An electromagnetically operated fuel injection valve is connected to its operating armature by a resilient member. In Fig. 2 the valve 55 is connected to the armature 54 by a sleeve 80 of synthetic resin material, e.g. nylon. The fuel flows through the core member 51 and through the needle 55. A flanged nut 87 limits the upward travel of the needle 55 and, due to the fuel which fills the space therein, cooperates with a flange 84 on the needle stem to damp the return of the needle to its seat. The injector valves 21, Fig. 1, are situated in the intake manifold branches and the solenoids 22 thereof are energized simultaneously through a transistor 28 rendered conductive by a pulse producing device 30 controlled by engine-operating characteristics such as temperature, pressure and throttle valve position. In a modification, Fig. 3, a gas-filled plastic envelope 145 is attached to a fuel filter 149 in the fuel inlet of the injector and serves to damp out pressure waves. In Fig. 6 the valve 240 has an extension pin 252 and seats at the junction 255 of two conical surfaces 256, 257, the lower end of the pin having a sharp-edged groove to improve atomization.
