Abstract
1,157,158. Mass spectrometers. LEYBOLDHERAEUS - VERWALTUNG G.m.b.H. 27 Oct., 1967 [2 Jan., 1967], No. 49043/67. Heading H1D. A mass spectrometer has, either between the ionization chamber 2 of the ion source 1 and the ion exit slit 3 as shown, or between the ion exit slit 3 and the ion entry slit 6 to the ion separating system 7, a two dimensionally focusing lens 4, as shown an electrostatic unipotential lens comprising three metal plates provided with central apertures. The ions are focused into a beam which touches or nearly touches opposite edges of the entry slit.
