Abstract
1,156,048. Aerials. COMELIT-COMPAGNIA ELETTRONICA ITALIANA S.p.A. 18 Oct., 1966 [18 Oct., 1965], No. 46624/66. Heading H4A. In a wideband horn-reflector aerial a main portion, which comprises a cylindrical aperture 5, a paraboloidal reflector 4 and a truncated horn 1, is formed as a unit from material having two synthetic resin walls, reinforced with glass or other fibres, between which is sandwiched thermally insulating material such as balsa wood or foamed plastics. The inside of the said main portion is metallized and it is terminated in integral flanges 7, 10 which support, respectively, a window 11 and a union element 12 for a waveguide feeder. The aerial is provided with a support and orienting system 15 and it may be pressurized with dry air. In an alternative arrangement (Figs. 3, 4, not shown), the main portion is divided into two by flanges located in the upper part of the truncated horn, below the reflector. In another alternative (Fig. 5, not shown), the lower part of the truncated horn is replaced by a hyperboloidal reflector (16) which focuses radiation towards a feeder horn (17) projecting through the reflector (4).
