Abstract

1525514 Antenna feed device A W RUDGE and N A ADATIA 26 Jan 1977 [29 Oct 1975] 44505/75 Heading H4A [Also in Division H1] A primary feed device for an offset curved (e.g. parabolic) reflector antenna is constructed to compensate for depolarization or squint effects which would otherwise result from the system asymmetry. The feed device comprises a waveguide horn with inner wall projections asymmetrically placed with respect to the horn axis. These introduce at least one higher order wave mode which combines with the fundamental mode to provide in the aperture plane of the horn a compensating non-uniform polarization of the electric field. If linearly polarized radiation is fed into the horn, the field in the aperture plane is copolarized except for two diametrically-opposed regions of cross-polarization. A circular or rectangular-sectioned horn may be used.
