Abstract

115,543. Connolly, J. July 19, 1917. Crucible furnaces. - In a furnace comprising two chambers connected together at the top, each chamber is nf circular section with an axial stand for the crucible, so as to leave a minimum fuel space around the stand and crucible in the primary chamber a, which is surrounded by an annular air chamber d with blast openings as shown. The blast is supplied through a pipe f enclosed in an intermediate chamber through which the products of combustion pass from the bottom of the secondary chamber b as shown in Fig. 3, or the air may be passed through an annular space v, Fig. 7, surrounding the secondary chamber and through a pipe embedded in the bridge wall between the two chambers. The furnace may be heated by solid, liquid or gaseous fuel. Single or double hinged doors are provided at the base of each chamber. A third crucible may be placed in the connecting flue as shown.
