A paper making machine includes a wetpress section with a suction roller 8 which picks up a paper web 5 directly from a wire 4, a press roller 10 and a middle roller 9 on which both the suction and press rollers 8, 10 press, the rollers being arranged such that the plane containing the axes of the suction and middle rollers 8, 9 is perpendicular to the plane containing the axes of the middle and press rollers 9, 10. The web 5 runs along felts 6, 7 after leaving the wire 4. The press roller 10 is provided with known means for adjusting contact pressure.
