Abstract
1,155,106. Roller mills. SOIL FERTILITY Ltd. 20 Oct., 1967 [24 Oct., 1966], No. 47701/66. Heading B2A. In a machine for separating hard objects, e.g. flint, from friable material, e.g. chalk or limestone, a mixture of the objects and material is first passed between a plurality of resilient crushing rollers 6 or 22 and mov- able thrust-receiving means 1 or 15 so that the friable material is reduced in size. The mixture then passing on to a screen, e.g. 14, which effects separation between the hard objects and the crushed friable material. In Fig. 1, the thrust-receiving means consists of a conveyor belt 1 composed of interlocking metal plates, a backing plate 7 being provided to take up the thrust. Each roller 6 is mounted on a. shaft 9 connected by sus- 'pension means 8 to a Shaft 10 which is pivotable at one end 11 and is loaded with weight 12 at the other end which is free to move vertically. The rollers are arranged in two sets which extend across the width of the conveyor belt and may be mounted side-by-side or in staggered relationship. The rollers may be driven only through contact with the material on the belt. Two crushing machines may be arranged in series. In Figs. 3 and 4, a driven thrust-receiving roller 15 is mounted adjacent crushing rollers 22 which rotate freely on a common axle 23 clamped by means of U-bolts 24 to leaf springs 20. Each leaf spring has one end pivotable at 21 to a support 19 and the other end free to move between limits set by a stop 25 and the end of an adjustable screw 26 passing through a rigid mounting 27. In a modification the rollers 22 are driven and the roller 15 rotates freely.
