Abstract
1,114,217. Feeding sheets. TAGERS G.m.b.H. 2 May, 1966 [15 Jan., 1966], No. 19270/66. Heading B6B. Sheets of metal are removed from a pile by the combination of an escapement means, which bends the sheets to separate them, a magnetic field which spaces the separated sheets, and a conveyer means. A pile 2 of tinned steel sheets 1 is housed in a frame 5, and supported on two opposed sides by two shafts 6 which are rotated in synchronism in the directions E, F. Each shaft 6 has two spaced longitudinal grooves 7 therein, whereby the edges of the bottom sheet (or sheets) 1 are engaged by the grooves, the sheet is bowed transversely and separated from the pile, and falls on to two similar rotatable shafts 6a. Two or more sheets 1 may be separated together by the shafts 6 due to the weight of the pile, but single sheets are separated by the shafts 6a. The single separated sheets 1a fall into a magnetic field created by opposed magnets 3, this field having horizontal lines of force to keep the several falling sheets at a distance b from each other. As the sheets fall further to position 1c, each is engaged at opposed edges by the flights of a pair of vertical worms 9 which are constantly rotating to feed the sheets downwardly on to an endless conveyer belt device 10. The pitch of the worms 9 increases from top to bottom, whereby the sheets are more widely separated from each other. The conveyer 10 may comprise a magnetic belt, and transports the sheets to a processing apparatus.
