Abstract

962,843. Producing granules from powder. E. HUTT. June 1, 1960 [June 2, 1961], No. 21223/62. Heading B5A. Compressed rods of powder material, formed by a rolling compression process, are granulated by co-operating wedge-shaped cutting edges mounted upon contra-rotating, parallel rollers and separated by a distance less than the thickness of the rods which may be of lenticular, orthorhombic, rhomboidal or rectangular crosssection. The cutting blades of one or of both coacting rollers may be circumferentially, axially or helically inclined and a plurality of pairs of rollers may successively be employed with the blade spacing successively halved. The rollers may be axially or radially adjustable and resiliently mounted and provided with blade cleaning strippers. The blades are of hard metal or metal carbide.
