Abstract

1,269,299. Tube mills. DOMINION ENG. WORKS Ltd. 28 July, 1970 [4 Sept., 1969], No. 36526/70. Heading B2A. A tube mill comprises a rotatable shell 26 having trunnions 7, and divided in to two or more compartments by partitions 13. Each partition comprises an array of grates 14, radially-extending lifter plates 15 and a discharge plate 24 connecting with a discharge opening 27. The centre of each partition comprises a feeder plate 17 having operatives 18 to permit grinding media (pebbles) to pass. The surfaces of the shell 26 and partition 13 are protected by wear plates, as at 28, bolted at 29. The position of the partition is adjustable. In operation firable material and pebbles are supplied at 11, the partially ground material passing through the grates 14. When the pebbles are sufficiently worn, they pass via the apertures 18 into the succeeding compartment. Thus the finer pebbles are used downstream of the inlet 11 to effect finer grinding of the firable material. Feed of material and pebbles is continuous.
