Abstract
807,711. Ball &c. mills. SMIDTH & CO. A. S., F. L. May 3, 1955 [May 10, 1954], No. 13600/54. Class 59 The interior of a ball or tube mill or of a coarse grinding chamber thereof contains a charge of grinding bodies varying in size and has a lining consisting of plates 3 presenting substantially flat surfaces 4 which, when the plates are assembled, run as continuous parallel helices around the lining in the direction opposite to that of the rotation of the mill as viewed from the feed end of the mill, these surfaces being separated by grooves 5, which are narrower in width than the surfaces and have inclined sides, the depth of the grooves initially being not more than half the thickness of the plates. Preferably, the pitch of the helix on which the grooves lie is between 30 degrees and 60 degrees e.g. about 45 degrees. The mill, Fig. 7, is divided into two chambers by a grid 17, the left-hand chamber having lining plates 19 as above described and the right hand chamber having lining plates 20 with rounded helical projections separated by grooves, the remaining lining plates 21 in the right-hand chamber being of opposite pitch from that of the plates 19, 20 to avoid clogging a discharge grid 18. In a modification, Fig. 9 (not shown), the mill has a single chamber.
