Abstract

1,025,219. Rod mills. BUREAU DE RECHERCHES GEOLOGIQUES ET MINIERES. 4 Aug. 1964 [July 25,1963], No. 30942/64. Heading B2A. A rod mill comprises a rotating cylinder 1 whose longitudinal wall is provided with pockets 14 of depth a at least equal to the maximum size of the particles to be ground, so that, in operation, the particles rest uncrushed in the pockets and are released at a point where they will fall ahead of at least some of the cylindrical grinding bars, 2 in the direction of rotation of the bars. The depth a may be adjusted by a shim or wedge 16, the number of pockets is determined in accordance with the nature of the product to be ground. The bottoms of the pockets 14 include screens or gratings 11 in openings 12 in the wall 10 of the cylinder, to permit outlet passage for ground material, and these openings are distributed in echelon formation along the cylinder. Drive is affected by motordriven rollers 3 and rollers 4 disposed in grooves at the ends of the cylinder, or by a toothed ring- gear and pinion. Material is loaded through a door 9 or via a shoot and trunnion arrangement (not shown).
