Abstract

1,127,727. Screw press filter. SOC. ANON. DES FONDERIES ET ATELIERS L. CHOQUENET. 25 April, 1967 [4 May, 1966], No. 18923/67. Heading BID. A screw press for extracting liquid from beet-pulp includes a rotary perforated metal core 1 bearing interrupted screw threads 2 and a coaxial rotary perforated drum 3 and means for rotating core 1 and drum 3 at different relative speeds. The compression chamber formed between the drum and the core may be of variable cross section. The cross section of both drum 3 and core 1 may be variable or constant to achieve this. Drum 3 may bear interrupted helicoid surfaces 4 of reverse pitch to that of the screw threads 2. In use, vegetable material introduced at hopper 5 is partially deliquified due to its own weight, passes in a straight line through the compression chamber where further deliquifying takes place, the liquid passing through the walls of core 1 and drum 3 and the deliquified material leaves at 6. Removed liquid leaves at 9, 10 and 11. Pegs 8 prevent initial rotation of the vegetable material with the core 1.
