Abstract

1,152,628. Pressure-resisting doors. RIGGS & LOMBARD Inc. 15 Sept., 1967 [22 Sept., 1966], No. 42153/67. Heading F2P. A door closure system for a pressurized tank comprises a door 20 arranged within the tank and seating by means of a flange 26 on a seal 24 fitted in a channel 22 within opening 12, and means for moving the door inwardly by combined pivoting and sliding action so as to pass clear of any obstructions near the opening towards the fully opened position shown in chain-lines, such means comprising at each side of the door an inclined guide channel 34, which is engaged by a follower 30 mounted on the lower edge of the door, and an arm 40 which is carried by a rotatable shaft 38 and is pivoted at its outer end 44 to a bracket 46 arranged midway between the upper and lower door edges, the shaft 38 being rotatable clockwise to open the door by a pneumatic or hydraulic cylinder 52 when pressure in the tank is lowered sufficiently, the door when closed being held in place solely by internal pressure. The door is reinforced and is provided with windows (28, Fig. 3, not shown).
