Abstract

1,083,973. Hatch covers. WILEY MANUFACTURING CO. Sept. 28, 1964 [Sept. 26, 1963], No. 39356/64. Heading B7S. [Also in Division E2] A hatch cover 13, co-planar with the deck 10 when closed, is pivoted at a point 58 in a recess 34 along the side of the hatch, and is operated by an hydraulic piston and cylinder assembly 50, 52 pivotally connected at 60 and 54 respectively in recess 34 and on hatch cover 13. The recess 34 is provided with a cover assembly 65 pivoted at 76 and co-planar with deck 10 and cover 13. Opening cover 13 results in cover assembly 65 also opening, rollers 86 on assembly 65 moving firstly along a cam surface 90 on hinge bracket 44 and then along the top surface of the hatch cover. The cover assembly 65 may be manually opened independently of cover 13 by means of a lever 82 pivoted at 84 in a recess of cover assembly 65. A gasket 32 co-operates with a bar 22 to seal the hatch when closed, blocks 24 limiting gasket compression.
