Abstract

1,159,917. Door closing springs and checks. JAMES GIBBONS Ltd. 12 Dec., 1967 [12 April, 1967], No. 16863/67. Heading E2M. A door-closing spring and check mechanism comprises a box 1 in which is journalled a pintle 2 to engage and turn with the door, a heart shaped cam 4 on the pintle 2, and a rectangular follower 7 which is mounted to slide in the box I under the turning action of the cam 4 when the door is opened, in opposition to at least one door-closing compression spring 11 which may be adjustable thrusting on the follower 7 and is restrained, in the return movement as the door closes, by a piston-and-cylinder type sealed hydraulic check 18 opposing the spring closing action. Two notches 5a are provided in the cam 4 to engage respectively with the anti-friction rollers 6 and hold the door when it is fully opened in either direction. The device of the invention is suitable for mounting above a door, in the transom or lintel.
