Abstract
1,151,796. Continuous films. BRITISH CERAMIC RESEARCH ASSOCIATION. 8 Dec., 1967 [22 Sept., 1966], No. 42305/66. Heading F4B. A direct fired continuous film for the rapid firing of ceramic ware comprises a preheating zone 20, firing zone 21 and cooling zone 22 built up of thin refractory tiles 25 held together by dovetailed joints, an outer casing of easily removable blocks 38, 39 in the firing zone, bats 18 sliding on circular-section rails and carrying cups 30 &c., and burner ports 40 for gas burners above and below the bats 18. In the firing zone the side tiles 25 are higher leaving a space 33 above the ware divided by baffles 36. Cooling air supplied longitudinally of the kiln into the cooling space 22, is utilized as combustion air in the firing zone, and ducts (42, Fig. 1) from the side walls near the entrance remove waste gases used in the preheating zone 20. With the aforementioned construction the walls and roof in the preheating zone 20 and cooling zone 22 have a low heat capacity and those in the firing zone have a greater heat capacity.
