Abstract

1,150,351. Cooling confections. G. MEAGHER. 17 June, 1966 [17 March, 1965], No. 11220/65. Heading F4H. Cakes or biscuits on an endless conveyer 8 are cooled in a tunnel 5 by air from fans 13, which air is distributed over the whole conveyer area within the tunnel and comprises recirculated air or a mixture of recirculated and fresh air. The required distribution is effected by baffles (not shown) and by a perforated screen 30. The suction side of the fans communicates through a filter 16 with a fresh air inlet 17 and through lateral ducts (25), Figs. 2 and 3 (not shown), with a heated air collection chamber 21 located below the conveyer. The collection chamber is provided with an exhaust passage 24 which includes fans 23 and from which air may be diverted through an opening 29 for space heating purposes. The proportion of fresh and recirculated air present in the stream from the fans 13 is controlled by dampers 20 and 26 which are moved in unison by a controller which is responsive to tunnel temperature. The filter 16 is in the form of a fibrous mat wound between reels 18 and 19.
