Abstract

1,147,236. Rotary-scythe mowers. C. VAN DER LELY N.V. 26 July, 1966 [10 Aug., 1965], No. 33676/66. Heading A1F. A rotary-scythe mower comprises a boom 1 mounted at the rear of a tractor 29 and carrying two rows of relatively-staggered rotary-scythe units, each unit comprising a frusto-conical drum 9 resting on a domed cap 10 and carrying, above the cap, a plate 22 on which are secured knives 24, 25, each drum being invertible and being capable of carrying the knives at either of its two ends, whereby swaths of different degrees of compaction can be formed by inverting the drums and re-mounting the knives. The knives of the two rows are of different radial projection, those on the rear row being of larger diameter. Each drum is mounted in a bearing 6 carried by two convergent arms 5 pivoted in brackets on the boom, the arms being held resiliently in rubber blocks 21 carried by the boom 1 so that they are capable of limited vertical movement. The boom houses a drive-shaft 19 which drives, through bevel gears 17, 18, a series of vertical stubshafts 15 from which belt-drives 13 are taken to pulleys 12 on the drum-axles 7. The boom has a horizontal pivot adjacent to its connection with the tractor.
