Abstract

114,692. Bill, R. W. May 9, 1917. Mines, marine.-Relates to nets of the kind provided with mines and adapted to occupy a vertical position beneath the surface for destroying submarine vessels. According to the invention, the net is made throughout of substantially the same specific gravity as the water, the upper part being slightly lighter than the lower part to ensure the vertical position of the net. The net may be built up of elements, Fig. 2, comprising a mine b and floats c. These elements a are joined together in horizontal and vertical formation, Fig. 1, or in diagonal formation, Fig. 3; and the joints are made weak so as to break and liberate the'sections encountered by the submarine vessels, leaving the remainder of the net effective.
