[Also in Division G3] Apparatus for the continuous rolling of heavy steel sections includes, between a pair of stands 1 and 2, an auxiliary stand 8 which controls the tension in a workpiece 4 by performing a light rolling pass on the workpiece. Load cells 24 and 24<SP>1</SP> detect any tendency for the stand 2 to be deflected due to tension in the workpiece, signals from the cells being fed (through a value setter 25 and converter 26) to a motor for setting the screwdown 21 of the stand 8. The setting of the rolls 17 and 18 is designed to reduce or remove the tension existing in the workpiece. The rolls of stand 8 are driven by a slip-motor.
